About the Role
Surge Africa (https://www.surgeafrica.org) is expanding its impact, and they need a detail-oriented, tech-savvy, and collaborative Program Assistant to support their remote team. This permanent, fully remote position offers an immediate start and the chance to work in a flexible, mission-oriented environment. Your role? To be the backbone of Surge Africa’s programs and daily operations, ensuring everything runs seamlessly from planning to execution. Whether it’s coordinating virtual events, managing budgets, or maintaining documentation, your work will directly contribute to advancing climate awareness and youth engagement.
Key Responsibilities
Program & Operational Support
- Spearhead the organization and coordination of programs, ensuring they align with Surge Africa’s mission and strategic goals.
- Support the continuous improvement of program evaluation and delivery processes.
- Manage budgets for routine and special events, providing logistical support for both in-person and virtual engagements.
Documentation & Knowledge Management
- Prepare, format, and edit reports, proposals, and presentations.
- Develop and maintain digital filing systems for efficient team collaboration.
- Coordinate translation, proofreading, and editing of documents as needed.
Administrative & Coordination Support
- Manage shared calendars, send reminders, and organize team meetings.
- Prepare meeting agendas, take minutes, and handle reservations for off-site events.
- Relay internal communications to ensure everyone stays in the loop.
Human Resources & Finance Support
- Assist with hiring processes, onboarding new employees, and payroll management.
- Provide general administrative support for HR and finance-related tasks.
Additional Responsibilities
- Offer flexible support across departments as organizational needs evolve.
- Perform other duties as assigned by team members.
Skills & Qualifications
Professional Experience
- Minimum 3 years in program support, administration, or HR, with experience in both in-person and virtual event management.
Technical & Organizational Skills
- Proficiency in digital tools, virtual workspaces, and multitasking under tight deadlines.
- Strong organizational and documentation skills.
Interpersonal & Communication Skills
- Clear, polite, and effective written and verbal communication.
- Ability to collaborate across teams with excellent time management skills.
